Grow features
It is a perennial loose grass of spring type of development with erect, smooth, glabrous, well-leafed stems up to 65 cm high, with a large number of basal leaves. The leaves are bare, slightly rough on top; the ligule is short – up to 1 mm long. The inflorescence is an ear 15 to 25 cm long. It does not withstand drought and frost in snowless and little snowy winters; it dies in late spring frosts. It responds well to nitrogen fertilization and irrigation, but does not tolerate close groundwater, does not tolerate long-term flooding by hollow waters. As an excellent fodder plant, it is well eaten by all types of livestock both on pasture and in hay. It has good aftergrowth capacity, quickly grows back after grazing, is resistant to cattle grazing – perfectly withstands repeated mowing. Frequent grazing or mowing when fertilizing contributes to its tillering.
