In the early 2000s, Miratorg was one of the first investors who believed that the state policy to protect domestic agricultural producers, agricultural development and import substitution was serious and lasting. The company's first major project was pork production, and the date of opening of the first pig complex in the Ivnyansky district of the Belgorod region in 2004 became the start date of production activities.
The creation of pig farms "pulled" a whole chain of production solutions, which later became known as "strategies from field to counter" — this strategy became the basis of the entire business model of the holding. The need to provide livestock with high-quality feed on time and at a stable price resulted in the cultivation of cereals and legumes on their own farmland and the construction of the first feed mill of the agroholding just three years later, here in the Ivnyansky district.
With the increase in production volumes and the launch of new pig breeding complexes, the question arose about its own meat processing enterprise for the supply of meat products to the market. From the very beginning, it was decided to use only the most advanced technologies and the best world achievements in the field of meat processing at the enterprise: the robotic plant "SK Korocha", commissioned in 2008, and to this day is the largest and high-tech pork processing enterprise in Russia. By 2010, the agroholding had become the No. 1 pork producer in the country and remains the undisputed leader in this segment, despite the fierce competition.
The agroholding is also the No. 1 producer of beef, the leading producer of cereals, oilseeds and compound feeds in the country. Other business areas include poultry farming, production of lamb, pink veal, frozen semi—finished products, pet food, as well as vegetable growing, production of ready meals and drinks. These are more than 20 factories, hundreds of livestock sites, 55 commodity segments, 2,500 commodity items, 43 thousand jobs in 28 regions and 470 billion rubles of investments. The holding operates its own logistics company, has built and operates 15 distribution centers, and is developing its own retail network. The company constantly launches new and promising products in demand by the market, for example, the production of gelatin and raw heparin, develops genomic breeding in animal husbandry, and has begun to create a potato seed fund.
For 20 years, Miratorg has done a great job in the agricultural sector of our country – modern enterprises have been launched, new production lines have been created, hundreds of thousands of hectares of farmland that were once lost have been returned to circulation.Of course, all these achievements would not have been possible without a well-thought-out, consistent and understandable government policy in the agro-industrial complex for investors and banks. The first important step taken by the Government on the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture in 2003 was the application of tariff quotas for meat imports. The state has set a goal to significantly increase the profitability of animal husbandry by restricting imports at a low customs tariff rate. At that time, the share of imports in poultry meat consumption reached 70%, pork and beef almost 40%. Many investors have heard this signal.
Meat is one of the most demanded food products on our table, and the impact of the development of meat farming on the entire agricultural complex and many other sectors of the economy can hardly be overestimated. The Russian meat shelf has changed a lot in 20 years. The efforts of the state and huge budget injections to support the Russian agro-industrial complex and animal husbandry have not been in vain. Poultry meat production has increased almost 7 times, pork production has increased almost 3 times, and we have increased turkey production almost 9 times. After many years of rapid decline in the number of cattle, it was possible to stop the decline in beef production and even gradually increase it, primarily by increasing productivity. Since 2003, the production of all types of meat has increased from 5 to 12 million tons in slaughter weight. This is an increase of 140%. During the same time, the growth of global meat production slightly exceeded only 50%. If at the beginning of the century Russia accounted for 2% of world production, now our share has grown to 3.3%. Russia has become a world leader in the production of pork, chicken and turkey meat.
Agricultural producers are not only ensuring the country's food security, but also increasing exports of domestic products. For example, the volume of exports of Miratorg products in 2023 amounted to 191 thousand tons – from raw materials, fats and meat and bone meal to branded meat semi-finished products and pet food, compared with the previous year, the volume of supplies increased by 18%. The geography of supplies covers 40 countries. In total, the country exported almost 800 thousand tons of meat, meat products, ready-made meat products, live cattle and technical raw materials of animal origin worth almost $ 2 billion.
In 2020, Russian agricultural producers reached the parameters of the Food Security Doctrine. And the recent lifting of restrictions on pork supplies from Russia to China in this regard has become a new incentive for the development of the meat industry. In the near future, our priorities – both the agricultural sector as a whole and the Miratorg Agricultural Complex — are the development of domestic agricultural technologies, reducing dependence on technological imports, which will allow Russia to enter the Top 10 exporters of agricultural products by 2030.
