Miratorg has purchased more than 100 modern farming vehicles as part of its plans to convert over 7000 hectares of derelict land in Kaliningrad Region to arable use.
Kaliningrad, 5th
September 2016. Miratorg division in Kaliningrad has announced spending over 370 million roubles on the purchase of modern agricultural vehicles and machinery – as part of its plans to return 7000 hectares of derelict land in Kaliningrad Region to productivity as arable land.
Miratorg division in Kaliningrad is carrying out a project of Miratorg in Kaliningrad Region, as part of an interregional scheme for raising top-quality beef cattle. Over six of its high-tech farms in Kaliningrad Region, the company raises more than forty-five thousand head of prime Aberdeen Angus beef cattle. The company's land holdings rose in 2016 to total 52,000 hectares – both to grow fodder for animals, and to provide the herds with grazing pasture.
The company is expanding dynamically, and each year its needs for fodder and grazing land increase in ratio with the number of its beef farms. Miratorg division in Kaliningrad is now buying up land which has stood derelict for decades, and will need extensive treatment before it can be used for farming. Trees and shrubs must be felled, the land must be ploughed, weeded, and mulched – and only then will it be possible to sow perennial grasses and fodder crops. This lengthy and time-consuming process must be commenced at once, if the land is not to sit idle for still longer. In the context of expanding the land holdings of Miratorg division in Kaliningrad, the building of additional farms and bringing the cultivation project online requires the investment of 370 million roubles, and the purchase of over 100 modern farming vehicles and machinery from world producers. This means that in 2016 a record number of 7000 hectares of land will be returned to farming use, making harvests of more than 260,000 tonnes of fodder possible.
Zhanna Malkova, CEO of Miratorg division in Kaliningradt, said “We are carrying out dynamic expansion of the interregion project for beef-cattle raising. Our growing herd has to have enough fodder to last all year. In this year alone, we are planning to bring 7000 hectares of formerly derelict land back into farming use. Doing this means purchasing the modern farming equipment that's needed to increase the scale of production in Kaliningrad Region. Every year we will be increasing the volume of work needed to expand and improve the quality of beef cattle rearing and returning derelict land to farm use.”
