Miratorg doubles the number of sheep on its sheep farm in Kursk region

Kursk, April 2 - ABH Miratorg, No. 1 meat producer in the Russian Federation, reports an increase of up to 36 thousand heads of sheep on its farm in Kursk region, which is twice as many as in March 2018.

Miratorg is the leading vertically integrated agricultural holding in Russia. Sheep breeding, as a new activity area of the company, effectively complements the production chain and expands the Holding’s product range. A unique sheep farm with a target capacity of 3.3 thousand tons of lamb in live weight per year is located in Fatezhsky district of Kursk region. The pilot project provides for year-round indoor herd management. This technology has several advantages over traditional grazing on open pastures: the specialists on the farm constantly monitor the entire production cycle - from insemination to finishing - on one site. This, combined with the use of modern technology for industrial sheep breeding, makes it possible to achieve production efficiency on the level of leading global manufacturers, guarantee high and consistent meat quality, and run a flexible production meeting the market needs. The first animals - ewes with a high genetic level - were delivered to the farm on March 2018. By the end of the year the number of sheep on the farm went up to 21 thousand heads due to offspring. In March of this year 12 thousand more ewes were delivered to the farm. “The pilot sheep farm in Kursk region is the first step in implementing a unique large-scale interregional project: nowadays the Agribusiness Holding is considering the possibility of creating new closed-type sheep farms in several regions of the Central Federal District with the prospect of increasing production up to 33.9 thousand tons of products per year”, the press service of Miratorg commented.
