Kaliningrad, 29th
August, 2016. Miratorg, Russia's largest beef producer, has announced that as part of its interregional program to expand the production of top-quality beef, it has increased the size of its cattle herds at its Miratorg division in Kaliningrad farms. In 2016 a total of 15.5 thousand Aberdeen Angus calves were born at its farms. This brings the overall head of herd to 45 thousand – and increase of 10% on the previous year.
Miratorg farms rear the largest herd of Aberdeen Angus cows in the whole of Europe. Today the company's farms in Bryansk, Smolensk, Orlovsk, and Kaliningrad Regions rear more than 450 thousand animals. The company's facilities in Kaliningrad Region perform a special function – they are responsible for the breeding stock and calf-rearing to renew the herd through the cycle of 'cow-to-calf'. Miratorg division in Kaliningrad is the industry leader in the Region, with a herd of over 45 thousand animals, and land holdings that exceed 53 thousand hectares – divided between its operations in growing fodder crops for the animals, and providing grazing pastures for the herd.
Zhanna Malkova, CEO of Miratorg division in Kaliningrad, said “Miratorg division in Kaliningrad is stepping up its production of top-quality beef in the Region. We've taken an overview of our calving for 2016 – a new record, of more than 15.5 thousand calves, who will form the basis for a further interregional project.”
